The litigation document review process required for discovery has become both increasingly complex and expensive in recent years, as the volume of information and the types and sources of electronic data requiring review all continue to grow. To address this challenge, many law firms and corporate legal departments have chosen to outsource the process to managed review providers.
In addition to cost savings, organizations can realize several other benefits by outsourcing to a managed review provider:
- Reviewers Have Experience and Expertise: Legal process outsourcing (LPO) providers that provide managed review services generally have skilled, experienced legal professionals on staff. Because document review is task often performed by LPOs, these attorneys will have developed the skills to maximize document review efficiency. And trained attorneys, paralegals, and other personnel also bring specialized expertise to document review engagements — for example, expertise in foreign language review, audio and video file review, or review of new document types, such as Slack data or customer service tickets.
- Resources and AI Technologies: Outsourcing to a managed review provider also creates efficiencies because the attorneys at an outsourced provider have experience with and have become experts in a variety of document review software programs. Leveraging technologies designed to facilitate the process, reviewers are adept at handling a large volume of information accurately and quickly.
- Review Team Takes a Collaborative Approach: When you outsource to a managed review provider, the review team will work closely with you to identify your needs and implement a plan designed to meet your specifications. Reviewers can also work closely with outside counsel, as appropriate, collaborating for the engagement to work efficiently and effectively.
- Firm Personnel Can Focus on Strategic Matters: In addition to knowing that experienced document reviewers are managing the document review process, firms that outsource to managed review providers can realize internal staff efficiencies. Rather than assigning firm personnel to review and supervise the process, those professionals can use their time more effectively and productively on other case tasks.
