When unforeseen events occur in business, organizations may have to move swiftly and without sufficient time for planning and due diligence. In these times of fluctuation, organizations may experience a need to scale internal staffing needs up or down. Subsequent to downsizing, short-term or long-term staff augmentation may be needed to fill the void.
Here are some of the ways organizations can utilize staff augmentation to fulfill internal needs during volatile business cycles:
- Manage fluctuating needs with flexibility in team sizes and expertise.
- Lower operational costs when rebuilding or on a tight budget.
- Fill in gaps in departments to minimize backlogs within specific skill sets or processes.
- Scale business faster without bringing on full-time employees, saving valuable time and budgetary resources.
- Bring an objective outlook that allows for the identification of process improvements in current practices.
- Decrease the high operational costs often seen with start-ups, and/or provide the ability to trial/expand to new business areas without bringing on permanent staff immediately.
- Have highly efficient staff to maintain productivity without the distractions of office politics and other internal dynamics.
- Continue to maintain authority while controlling the evolution of projects based on ongoing requirements.
There are many benefits of utilizing staff augmentation, depending on an organization’s specific objectives. The results may include: more time for core staff to focus on and execute strategic needs; better ability to meet budgets; and increased efficiency from the additional support. Ultimately, staff augmentation can help an organization in need of additional resources cover gaps created by business volatility.
